Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
1 What is Gestalt Tennis?
Gestalt Tennis is a unique and innovative approach to the game that combines traditional tennis techniques with mindfulness and self-awareness practices. Inspired by Gestalt theory, it focuses on a holistic development of the player starting from their mindful breathing skills, to enhance both physical performance and mental well-being.
2 How is Gestalt Tennis different from regular tennis coaching?
Gestalt Tennis includes traditional technical and tactical advice; but unlike conventional coaching, Gestalt Tennis gives equal priority to the mental and emotional aspects of performance alongside physical skills, at any level. This method encourages players to become more attuned to their bodies, helping them acquire new skills, manage stress, maintain focus, and improve resilience during matches. You can find out more details about Gestalt Tennis theory and content here.
3 Who can benefit from Gestalt Tennis?
Gestalt Tennis is suitable for players of all levels—from beginners seeking a well-rounded foundation to advanced players looking to refine their mental game. Whether you are a recreational player or a competitive athlete, Gestalt Tennis offers valuable techniques to enhance both your game and your mindset. You can read how other players experienced it here.
4 What can I expect during a Gestalt Tennis session?
Each session typically starts with mindful breathing exercises to centre your focus. This is followed by technical drills and gameplay designed to improve your awareness of body movements and their relationship with mind and emotions in the 'here and now' dictated by the ball. Sessions may include guided visualizations, reflective practices, Tai Chi Tennis and tailored feedback to foster skill development, mental clarity and emotional regulation.

5 Are there any prerequisites to join a session?
No previous experience with tennis, mindfulness or Gestalt is required. Whether you’re new to tennis or a seasoned player, I will adapt the sessions to suit your experience level and fitness.
6 Do you offer group sessions or only individual coaching?
I offer both individual and group coaching sessions, so you can choose what suits you best.
If you're looking for personalized attention, one-on-one sessions are a great way to focus on your specific goals and progress at your own pace.
If you enjoy a more social and collaborative vibe, group classes are a fantastic option. They’re not only fun and dynamic, but also a great way to learn from others, stay motivated, and build confidence together.
Group sessions come in two sizes:
Small groups (up to 3 players) for a more intimate setting with plenty of individual feedback
Larger groups (up to 10 players) established in the Hackney Tennis programme, full of energy and team spirit.
